5 ways to help your (photo) business during our COVID lockdown
We are having highs and lows at this point… unsure of the future and when that light will shine back on the normalcy of life. Am I right? I go through “I trust the process, there is ALWAYS a reason” days to “WTF am I going to do!? Will I survive ? What the actual FUCK?!”
Small businesses like mine, possibly yours, will have to find ways to be innovative, to keep UP with the times and to stay afloat in the industry of photography. Where is it going to head? I am unsure. By this point 16 elopements for April have been postponed or cancelled and most of my clients are from overseas, will I even get to see them this year? Elopements and weddings have been postponing left and right and as much as that gets me down, I made a list to help ME get back UP.
I felt the need to share, so here it goes:
reinvent your vision or make it STRONGER: Where does your branding lay in the confines of your VISION, your DREAM… how does that take a part in the clients you get? Do you see a trend you want to change in your work? This is the time to REINVENT yourself.
You have been given money, in the currency of TIME: Whenever we are too busy to shake off the work load and dive into those creative endeavors (back to those days where you weren’t thinking of the buck but got into your profession for the LOVE of it.) you tend to fall short of feeling motivated, at least I do! I NEED time to be creative and to THINK. Use this time to creatively JUMPSTART, use your household items and find the need to see things differently.
CLEAN up your loose ends: your list of clients, information on your site, learning how to use SEO on your blog. CLEAN UP all of those tatted loose ends that seem to fall to the waist side when you are too busy working.
RE-EDIT past work: WHOA! I cannot tell you enough how FUN this is… not only have I changed my photography skills, I have also added or altered (learned more like) my EDITING skills. I get to see older images in a whole new perspective and I have two thoughts “this is a great image, I didn’t see it this way when I took it..” OR (LOL) “man I wish I could go back and do what I know NOW to make this a better shot.”
document this transition and LISTEN to how you FEEL: what is the most exciting thing getting back to the swing of things when work starts up again? What are those words, those true deep seeded “I DO THIS BECAUSE…” words. If its MONEY… are you really in this business to suit a passion and how can we rethink this?
One thing is for CERTAIN: There will be a change in your environment, in your social outings, in you business. THERE WILL BE, BECAUSE IT’S ALREADY HAPPENING. However, there is a cure for this pandemic. There will be a light that shines so bright… I just want you to take care of yourselves now so you can come out of this with passion and gusto.
